Success story: University of Northern Iowa College of Business Administration
Butler University College of Business
 The Assignment
- Assessment of portfolios; students must complete two 300-hour co-ops and compile two portfolios
- Portfolio, akin to a mini-thesis, consists of 11 assignments, demonstrating a range of outcomes
- Design rubrics and calibrate, align to SLOs
- Analysis of student learning outcome (SLO) data
- Draw up recommendations for improvement (closing the loop)
The Outcome
- EduMetry met all of the requirements and helped Butler University close the loop four times over the course of 18 months
- Faculty stayed engaged throughout the process, but were relieved of the mechanical tasks
- Even skeptical faculty came around when presented with objective data on outcomes
- Work is in progress to take assessment to a deeper classroom level for more granular insights
- Success with the undergraduate program led to a broader partnership to include the graduate program
University of Northern Iowa College of Business Administration
The Assignment
- Entailed a partnership for end-to-end assessment, involving all five of EduMetry’s steps
- Small faculty teaching in a graduate program in both the U.S. and on its Hong Kong campus
- Faculty had done preliminary work on identifying SLOs but were already stretched
- Administrators committed to high-quality assessment but with minimal burden on faculty
The Outcome
- Relied on the D-Cube™ to efficiently and easily assimilate faculty input in a matter of weeks
- D-Cube™ used for faculty input in both curriculum mapping and the design of rubrics
- Work is in progress in two graduate programs (M.B.A. and Master of Accounting)
- Tentative plans to retain EduMetry for carrying out assessment of much larger undergraduate program
